BREWING CHANGE: HomeWork and Penelope’s collaboration goes further with an impact project
HomeWork & Penelope Coffee
HomeWork’s coffee partner, Penelope Coffee, is a company known for its dedication to ethical sourcing and sustainability. The collaboration brings together our tight-knit community and our coffee-supply to create a positive impact on other communities and the environment.
We are introducing a brand-new filter coffee roasted by Penelope and delivered directly to HomeWork. The beans for this single-origin blend have been sourced from some of Colombia’s most famous coffee-growing regions. They are produced using the traditional fully washed method, the cherry is hand-picked and pulped on the farm and then left to ferment for 26 to 36 hours in tanks. The parchment is then washed in clean water and laid out on parabolic beds to sun-dry for up to 20 days. Sucafina, their importer, pays a premium for the sun-drying process and for the higher overall quality, ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work.
“Coffee For Clean Water”
But it doesn’t end there, Sucafina has taken a pioneering approach to impact projects in the coffee industry. A portion of Penelope’s sales with HomeWork go towards causes like, “Coffee For Clean Water”.
1.6 million people in Colombia live without pure water and unfortunately the rural population is not connected to water infrastructure, according to Sucafina. The project aims to provide access to clean water for these communities. Clean water filtration systems can be constructed to support 25, 50 or 100 families and maintenance training will be offered. The impact project was created by Local Partners, a non-profit organisation based in Colombia, which develops sustainable initiatives for the coffee industry.
By having a membership with us, you are part of the program to build water filtration systems in coffee farming communities in Colombia, through the Farmgate Initiative Programme. As you enjoy each sip of this new delicious coffee blend, you can be confident that you are contributing to a clean and more equitable world. Through partnering with Penelope coffee, we are able to make a sustainable difference.
